Nice to see you posting again, Chip! I agree.

Innovation is great, but some of the top companies are those that weren't first to do it. They took something that worked and made it better.

Great Blog! I would love to have you on my team. My goal is to recruit one million member's by 2015. Tall order but we can do it if we all get on the same page and work together as a team. My platform is being beta tested for Kiwanis right now and I would love to pick your brain as much as possible. As you can see from the time of day of this post I work on this during my "free" time. Let's keep in touch.

One of the most eloquent posts I've read on the subject in a long time....created from an iPhone. Bravo! We refer to this as the social consumer/customer hierarchy, the allocation of scarce resources to ensure a 1+1=many approach. I hope you made it back safe and sound and are now well rested. Cheers!

I only half agree. Allow me to explain myself. A website allows NYC and governing stakeholders to brand to ensure users know they are in the right place. Wikipedia doesn't offer a lot in branding.

The website may have been the correct solution, but as you stated what was missing was the rest of the solution which is the strategy. Your strategy must align with your goals and product. If their goal was to throw it on Wikipedia there still has to be a strategy to tell everyone that's where they should go for official instructions - the same goes for the website. Just by launching a website or a wiki article will not guarantee to win search.

Case in point - blogs don't get a lot of traffic just because they're blogs. People have to know about them, link to them and often times know where to find them.

Interesting analogy. I am not a coffee drinker, but you sure make drinking coffee sound almost worthy of my palette.

Thanks Derek! I'm not sure what to say about the Brett Michaels comment, but I'll take y our advice to heart and try at all costs to avoid a diabetic stroke.

There's a social media marketing illustration in there somewhere.
